I agree with your thoughts on determination.

As a young man I did not have much support to get a college degree from my parents. In school C's were always ok and I developed bad study habits growing up but good tv watching skills. In the back of my mind I always knew I was smart enough for college but after finishing high school, I did not have the money or support to attend. I enrolled but never made it to a class.

I was 18 years-old, washing dishes and working in factories to put change in my pocket. I always knew I needed at least one college degree. With some determination and the drive to achieve my goal, I finally made it back to college at the age of 23.

The story doesn't end there, being a college freshman at 23 among 18 year olds is hard. They all say "Grandpa what are you doing here". Not to mention I had to retrain myself study skills. Yet with my continued determination I made it. It took 4 years and I got my BA.
