It’s March 2012, National Women’s History Month. Let’s celebrate and get fired up by these encouraging empowering motivational quotes by women. The journey was long and arduous because of political ploys.

From 1980 until 1987, with the help of volunteers from the private sector, educators and women’s organization, The National Women’s History Project, took on the yearly challenge to lobby for this landmark event. It began as Women’s History Week and by 1984, 14 states had declared March as Women’s History month. In 1987 Congress, finally, declared March National Women’s History month in perpetuity.

Motivational quotes are antioxidants of the mind. Feed you mind daily ~ Adalia

Beloved Maya Angelou, the grande dame

She knows a thing or two about rising up from the ashes to embrace life and live out loud.  When I read her bio, I thought, ” She has lived and still lives, on so many levels, a full and rich life. The quote below is an example of how she does not live her life. We should all follow her example … she defines SUCCESS on her terms.

Most people don’t grow up. Most people age. They find parking spaces, honor their credit cards, get married, have children, and call that maturity. What that is, is aging.

The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself. If we don’t have that we never grow, we never learn, and sure as hell we should never teach.

A Woman in harmony with her spirit
is like a river flowing.
She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination
prepared to be herself
and only herself

Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it!

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

A woman who is convinced that she deserves to accept only the best challenges herself to give the best. Then she is living phenomenally.

Women should be tough, tender, laugh as much as possible, and live long lives.

I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.

The controversial and engaging Roseanne Barr

She loves to stir things up – I do believe she likes that element of surprise, you never know what’s going to come out of her mouth.  She, too, has defined success on her terms.

A guy is a lump like a doughnut. So, first you gotta get rid of all the stuff his mom did to him. And then you gotta get rid of all that macho crap that they pick up from beer commercials. And then there’s my personal favorite, the male ego.

As a housewife, I feel that if the kids are still alive when my husband gets home from work, then hey, I’ve done my job.

The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it.

There’s a lot more to being a woman than being a mother, but there’s a hell of a lot more to being a mother than most people suspect.

The incomparable Whoopi Goldberg

She has broken through so many glass ceilings, I have lost count:  gender glass ceiling, race glass ceiling, hair texture glass ceiling, body image glass ceiling, education glass ceiling, whew! Ms. Goldberg, success defined on your terms.

When I listen to these women, it makes what I thought were my hard knocks feel like little nudges.

When I started, I knew I didn’t fit any visual that anyone was going to lie down and take their clothes off about. Work doesn’t come to me; I go out and look for it.

When you are kind to someone in trouble, you hope they’ll remember and be kind to someone else. And it’ll become like a wildfire.

An actress can only play a woman. I’m an actor, I can play anything.

I am an artist, art has no color and no sex.

I am the American Dream. I am the epitome of what the American Dream basically said. It said, you could come from anywhere and be anything you want in this country. That’s exactly what I’ve done.  I am where I am because I believe in all possibilities.

I’m fighting the label of “Black” actress simply because it’s very limiting in people’s eyes, especially people who are making movies.

Women are still in emotional bondage as long as we need to worry that we might have to make a choice between being heard and being loved.

A queen is wise. She has earned her serenity, not having had it bestowed on her but having passer her tests. She has suffered and grown more beautiful because of it. She has proved she can hold her kingdom together. She has become its vision. She cares deeply about something bigger than herself. She rules with authentic power.

When a woman rises up in glory, her energy is magnetic and her sense of possibility contagious.
