It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.  ~Author Unknown

Psst Do you know that one of the traits most successful people have in common is self-confidence?

Self Confidence is an inside job

When I was in high school, (many moons ago) back on the island of Antigua, my friend and  I had the darkest complexion in our class and  the lighter skin girls felt they were superior(yep! this is true even on a tiny island in the Caribbean). I became self conscious about my skin.

My friend, on the other hand, didn’t give a dam about what anybody said.  There was always a smile on her face, she stood erect and walked with her shoulders up and her head held high (in today’s vernacular – she had her swagger on). She was a princess and dam it, she was not afraid to show it. In retrospect,  I realize that she was comfortable in her own skin, exuded supreme confidence and did not need anyone’s validation.

Change your thoughts and transform your life

My mother and my friend influenced me  to accept all of me – who I am at my core – my authenticity. Over the years, when ever I had that negative recall, I would smile and cancel that thought and replace it with the empowering thought of what a unique and extraordinary woman I am.

For the next few days pay attention to how many times you hear someone use the word confidence and in what capacity it is being used. When I did this it was easy for me to conclude that self confidence is very important to achieve success.

Confidence fuels a successful life.

Confidence trumps knowledge, beauty, skill, and money. What is the benefit of all of the above if you don’t have self-confidence?

Your knowledge will not open any doors, if your lack of confidence prevents you from showing it.

Your beauty may open doors but if you don’t believe in yourself, they will soon close.

You may have skills but you will not shine when you doubt yourself.

And all the money in the world will not make you happy when low self esteem and lack of confidence is your shadow self.

So how confident are you? Does lack of confidence keep you from expressing who you really are and what you really want?  It is possible to be confident in one area or your life while lacking confidence in another.

Self-awareness will help you to get in touch with the core YOU and master your SELF with confidence.

My previous post How to Make Self-Awareness a Habit will help with this process. As it says in the post stay focused on being aware for 21 days and you will identify the areas where you lack self-confidence and begin to overcome them.

Your turn

Did you identify any areas where you lacked confidence?
