Do you believe  people become successful because they’re

Successful people will tell you “nothing could be further from the truth.” Luck is the only reason with some grey area. There’s some controversy surrounding  “luck” as a contributor to success but successful people will tell you that when luck comes your way you have to be prepared to use it to your advantage.

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”~ Seneca

Along the lines of success and luck is an inspirational video from YouTube featuring the illustrious Michael Jordan. Michael  shares words of wisdom and inspiration on this timeless topic.

Here are my highlights from this video. Share yours after you watch it.

Be the best version of yourself –

Don’t waste time comparing yourself to others. Focus on your strengths, your brilliance and perfect them. Become a master of what you do well. Case and point – I was always concerned about my weight. At 5’7 I was 145 lbs. but that inner critic kept telling me I had to be smaller and I listened. My focus then was on my weight. I should have focused on being the best version of myself. Since we’re talking about the physical aspect of my being – my focus should have been my core strength. I was fit. I was flexible. I was strong. If I had focused on my core strength and challenged myself physically – who knows what I could have accomplished.

It’s never too late to live the life you should live – I did a half of the Los Angeles marathon in 2007 and completed the Los Angeles Marathon 2009.

You are your greatest enemy.

I can hear you saying “no way, I’m not my greatest enemy.”

Enemy: A person who is actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.

How many times per day do you beat yourself up with negative self-talk? How many times per day do you criticize yourself? How many times per day do you chip away at your self-confidence and self-esteem?”   Too many times!

Check the definition of enemy again.

Forgive yourself and take action to become your best friend. If you find it difficult to do on your own a coach or mentor can help you.

Don’t be afraid to try

Michael Jordan , one of the most famous basket players of all times,  had a dream to play baseball. He took action for that dream. When he stopped playing baseball some people saw that as failure. Not Michael – Michael saw that as success. Not everything you attempt to accomplish will be successful. Your success comes from having the courage to do something that YOU want to do.

Do something today that you’ve been putting off because you believe you’ll fail.

Powerful one liners from Michael

Have the inner confidence to take a chance and try something new.

Failure gave me the strength.

Pain was my motivation.

Even with a God given gift you’ve got to do the work.

Let your work speak for itself.

Put your mind to doing what you want to do and good things will happen.

My two favorites

You can surpass the expectations you have of yourself.

Limits like fear is just an illusion.

Here’s the video – I hope you’ll be inspired to dig deep into your potential.

It’s a wrap

Successful people are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Their success has less to do with their brilliance, luck and innate abilities and more to do with determination, taking risks and putting forth the effort instead of always looking for short cuts. They have mental fitness – ignore naysayers and other distractions – and move forward with confidence and courage to achieve their success.
