Saying thank you is more than good manners. It is good spirituality. ~Alfred Painter
There’s Something to Be Grateful for Every Day
There’s always something to be grateful for in life. I’ve accepted this as truth because of my life experiences. A mindset of gratitude helps us see possibilities. It is also the mindset of those who remain happy, no matter what’s going on in their lives.
A gracious mind keeps your vibration high. Those who vibrate at a high frequency tend to attract the positives they want. They find themselves in the right place, at the right time, engaged in the right activity, and ready to say yes when opportunities appear. Those on the outside looking in often call this luck.
Gratitude Through Challenge
I had to remind myself to be thankful. I raised two asthmatic boys. Their asthma wasn’t occasional—it was a daily health challenge. Still, I was grateful it was asthma because it was manageable and treatable.
Had my boys faced an illness that wasn’t manageable or treatable, I would have found a way to reframe that experience to maintain a gratitude mindset. Gratitude doesn’t deny difficulty; it reframes it so we can keep moving forward.
Gratitude Tested by Judgment
A couple of days ago, my higher self reminded me to be grateful instead of judgmental and dismissive. While doing some research on Google, I came across an article that listed my blog as one of the Top 20 Confidence-Building Blogs of 2013. Seeing my blog mentioned sparked my curiosity and invited me to take a closer look.
Instead of feeling thankful, my initial reaction was judgment.
These were my fleeting thoughts:
-
This list didn’t come from a well-known authority in the personal development space.
-
I noticed my blog appeared near the bottom of the list.
-
I quickly dismissed the recognition as insignificant.
“How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.”

My AHA Moment
I always pay attention to my first thoughts when I open my eyes in the morning. They are often profound. That morning, my first thought was simple and direct: practice what you preach.
I realized I needed to give thanks and accept—without judgment—the gift of being recognized. The ranking didn’t matter. What mattered was that someone took the time to notice my work.
That realization inspired me to write this post as an expression of gratitude. It also reminded me how easy it is to overlook blessings when they don’t arrive in the form we expect.
Gratitude in Everyday Life
Sometimes, we’re so focused on reaching the top of the mountain that we forget to enjoy the scenery along the way. Our desires may not show up exactly as we imagined. They may be the wrong color, size, shape, or timing.
However, when we look more closely, we often discover that the most important elements aren’t missing at all. They were simply waiting to be acknowledged.
Dig deep. Reflect on the things you’ve dismissed because they didn’t meet your standards or you didn’t feel worthy. When you find them, begin today to show gratitude. This shift in thinking can profoundly impact your life.

Always a joy to read your posts Adalia to get a lift for the day. I’ve learned through the course of my life to look for the silver linings — it’s there if we look for it. But, recently, in a conversation with my daughter I got a different perspective and had to really consider the positive spin in a different way.
I learned it’s also important to truly be okay with things (also adding to remember to be thankful as you would say) and be sure putting a positive spin on issues isn’t just a way to excuse it away and not do the work that’s needed to release it.
Hope you get tons of votes for the “top confidence blog of 2013” — I shared it everywhere for you! 🙂
