When it comes to success and living the life you want to live personally and professionally there is no greater enemy than FEAR (False Emotion Affecting Reality).
The fear of failure is one of the more popular fears that’s linked to those who lack the confidence to spread their wings and fly.
But is it always the fear of failure or is it something else?
Over the years of helping others to shift their thinking to become empowered, I’ve discovered that there are five fears that are bundled with the Fear of Failure
In my next five blog posts I will be discussing these five fears.
They are:
Fear of being judged
Is the fear of being judged holding you back from being authentic? Are you afraid to speak your truth, or taking action for your wildest dreams because of what others will think or say about you?
It isn’t just the unsuccessful who are held hostage by this fear. Some successful people are susceptible to this fear as well. It keeps them from reaching their next level of success. Their imagination run wild and they hear negative words similar to these:
Success has gone to your head.
Why are you doing that?
You think you’re better than other people.
You’re greedy.
You’re going to fail.
Haven’t you made enough money?
You’re out of your mind.
That is such a stupid thing for you to do when you’re already successful.
You’ll never be happy.
Make up your mind, you’re too indecisive.
Or other discouraging remarks.
“Be Who You Are and Say What You Feel Because
Those Who Mind Don’t Matter
and Those Who Matter Don’t Mind.”
— Dr. Seuss
How to let go of the fear of being judged.
If you find yourself gripped by the fear of being judged, ponder this: what you experience inwardly you project outwardly. What you fear you attract. With that in mind reflect again, are you sure you’re afraid of being judged, or are you feeling insecure?
It’s not about what others think or do, it’s all about YOU.
When it’s all said and done, you’re judging you. You can’t change anyone but yourself. Focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want. Build your self-confidence and your self-esteem. Project what you want others to see, of course, no matter what you do; there will always be those who will never get you.
Your attitude determines your altitude.
With your attitude of confidence and high self-worth, you’ll make decisions without worrying about being judged. Favorable light will shine on you, but you’ll soon discover you don’t need it for validation.
It’s a wrap
Fears of all kind are the biggest obstacles to success. In my next four consecutive posts I will address four of these fears.
Please come back and share your welcomed input.
In the mean time, here’s a really cool video, by Marie Forleo, from Michelle Shaeffer’s blog that shares valuable information on how to get over being judged.
Enjoy!

Loved this, Adalia. Fear is a biggie in stopping us from moving into authenticity. I’ve been blogging about just this over the last few days. Loved your quote from Dr Seuss and also just wanted to say that your sentence, ‘Your attitude determines your altitude’, really made me sit up and take notice. I’ll be coming back for the others in your fear series. Great post.
Fear is one of the top success crushers. But when acknowledge fear and move forward in spite of, success is yours for the taking.
This is so great that you’re addressing fears Adalia. I think I’m starting to realise that I’m fearful of failure, and my cynicism of what I’ve seen and experienced in my journey of building a business, is also wrapped up in that feeling. I know its holding me back. I love that you’re talking about fears Adalia!! 🙂
Yes, Louise, even successful people have fears. A sometimes that fear keeps them from achieving there next level of success.
Adalia, another great blog post. You summed it up with this sentence “You can’t change anyone but yourself.” That’s where the real work begins 🙂
Hello Kate, so true.
This is a great post, Adalia – and I know full well that a big part of the delays in my business are down to my fear of being judged. I suspect that most conscious entrepreneurs who are aware of this are, like me, playing with it all the time – but it takes constant daily attention to undo the years of conditioning. The video is great, and really illustrates the point – great strategies!
We all have fear of some type. Successful people look their fear in the eye and move forward to achieve their goal.
Even the most successful amongst us have fears but they feel the fear and do what they want to do. I have confidence in you Alison. I’ve seen your growth since Lisa’s event. Keep climbing your Mt Everest. I know you’ll get to the top.
Fear is simply taking a past experience, projecting it into the future with the anticipation of it happening again, and then re-experiencing it in the present. I say leave the past in the past, allow the future to unfold and enjoy the moment where the action takes place.
Ditto Jim. Leave the past where it belongs … in the past. It makes one’s life so much more fulfilling.
Great topic Adalia…hmmm fear. my worst enemy.
looking forward to the next 4 sessins.
cheers
Dimakatso, Since fear is so readily available, feel it, look it in the eyes and use it as fuel to move you forward. In other words take action in spite of your fear. What do you have to lose?
