“You string some letters together, and you make a word. You string some words together, and you make a sentence, then a paragraph, then a chapter. Words have power.”
― Chloe Neill
I’m going to share a video with you that caused me to reflect on the power of words.
Do you remember when you were growing up shouting “sticks and stones can break my bones but words can’t hurt me” to other children? I do, my sisters and I would shout this nursery rhyme to each other to deflect the hurtful words we were playfully shouting back and forth.
Even though we were playing and having fun, this nursery rhyme was indirectly programming us, on a subconscious level, to deflect the influence of negative words.
Taming your mind at an early age puts you in the driver’s seat of your life. When you’re an adult it will be easy for you to choose what influence or impact negative or positive words will have on your life.
Words are powerful.
They can heal.
They can hurt.
They can change a life.
They can change the world. ~ Adalia
Here’s the video that shows how words can be used to influence positive behavior.

So true, and I have seen this video before but it still makes me cry…
For each person I meet, I try to make their day better – it only takes a few words, but they can make all the difference. If someone has beautiful eyes – TELL THEM! If you appreciate an act of kindness you observe – TELL THEM! Thank you Adelia for reminding me of this video…
I didn’t know this was such a popular video. I can see why it would be. Sometimes, when our family, clients and/or friends are not responding the way we want them to, a change in the words we use may bring the desired results.
Adalia, Thank you for posting this video. I saw it several years ago and it is so powerful. A wonderful reminder 🙂
Yes, it’s powerful. Those who have the gift of “words” can influence others in a positive or negative way.
Yes, Kate, it’s a powerful reminder of what words can do. And as Dianne pointed out, the importance of random acts of kindness.
This is a very powerful video I use for transitions in my events.
It is very powerful in two ways. One, the compassion of a person who understands the power of words used their skills to make the life of another person better. It was a gift with nothing expected in return but made a huge difference. It was a radom act of kindness.
Second, using words to pursuade is an art. The careful selection of them together with the outcome can change the world.
Nice.
Dianne you broke this video into segments that awakened a few AHA moments: Random act of kindness. Persuasion is an art. Understanding the power of words.
Thanks
