Pit Stop Day

GroupOfChildren

When I was growing up that one of the phrases that I heard time and time again from the adults around me was “children should be seen not heard.” Did you have that experience? I do not hold anything against my parents or the other adults who uttered such nonsense because the intention behind those words ultimately what’s important. My parents and other adults were just repeating what they themselves had heard when they were growing up. But that was many years ago and today we know that children should not only be seen and heard but hey should be given the freedom to have an opinion and to express it respectful – the freedom to let their imagination soar and to explore their limitless creativity.

Children face many challenges as they blossom into adulthood. Parents, teachers and all people of influence play an important role in making this transition fun, safe, educational and empowering. It is never too early to empower children with confidence, self esteem and the tools they are going to need to navigate the twists and turns they encounter on their journey into adulthood. How should they deal with a bully? What to do if you are not popular? There are so many problems that our children face on a daily basis at school, on the play ground, from friends, other adults, teacher, parents, the media etc.

bec extraordinary

My EXTRAordinary woman of the week, Bec Furraway, has taken on the role of being a mentor to children from all over the world, through her Life Series Books and Grow Guides.  She is changing lives and influencing children to be happy and confident about their decisions.

Bec Furraway is the creator of the Children’s Life Series Books and Grow Guides. Aimed at children aged 5-12 years, these books and Grow Guides teach children how each choice they make can lead them to either a positive or negative experience. They learn that the way they choose to think, feel, speak and act has a consequence, and that even when they are faced with difficult challenges, they always have choices. Children learn how to make choices that benefit themselves and others in every situation.

Her work teaches children how to manage their thoughts, emotions, words and actions to bring positive inner and outer experiences, and teaches them life skills to face their challenges with courage and a positive outlook.

She offers free support to kids all around the world through www.unitingkids.com where children can connect online, share stories and creative projects, and learn life skills. Bec is also soon to launch an online community and resource for parents and teachers around the world at www.unitinggrownups.com

Please take time to visit Bec’s sites. She is doing an incredible job in helping our children to have coping skills, to learn how to make choices that are good for them and so much more.
