The importance of saying and accepting thank you

It’s important to say “thank you” and just as important to ask for it.

When was the last time you said thank you to someone in your inner circle for doing something that you take for granted?  Maybe it has never crossed your mind to say thank you because that person is doing something that is expected. Such as – your child for doing homework or chores, or your partner for being responsible and loving etc.

Acknowledgement, praise and thank you nurture the giver and as well as the receiver. AdaliaJ

On the flip side

Have you ever asked someone one in your inner circle to praise for what you’ve done?  Would you be comfortable asking anyone (family member, close friend, or someone else) for any type of acknowledgement?  Most people aren’t

Meet Dr. Laura Trice

In the Ted Talk video below –  Dr. Laura Trice gives a deceptively simple 3-minute talk, she muses on the power of the magic words “thank you” — to deepen a friendship, to repair a bond, to make sure another person knows what they mean to you.

From her research, Dr. Laura Trice, concluded that we’re uncomfortable asking for praise for several reasons:

You’re giving critical data to someone.

You’re telling someone where you’re vulnerable.

You’re telling someone where you need their help.

You’re fearful that they’ll use your data to control or abuse you. But, as Dr. Laura stated, the opposite is also true – they could give you what you want because they respect you and want to honor you.

Food for thought
